Hops & Grain wins gold at the World Beer Cup

We owe a big congratulations to our friend and client Josh Hare for taking home a gold at the World Beer Cup! Hops & Grain’s Alt-eration was a hit in the Altbier category and was up against 28 worldwide entries. For those of you who don’t completely geek out on beers, the Cup is an international competition organized by the Brewer’s Association. It’s the most prestigious beer competition in the world, so I think it’s fair to say that Hops & Grain kicked-butt.

Intuition Ale Works Featured in Communication Arts Magazine

Communication Arts was nice enough to take an interest in our can designs for Intuition Ale Works! The designs were featured both on the website and in the Interactive Annual 18 issue of the publication. The response to the work has been amazing, but we’ve also been pleased that the beer is flying off the shelves in Florida. Intuition has been a great success story and we are greatful that we were allowed the freedom to develop great design for such a fantastic product.

This year we have a lot to be thankful for…we’ve been busy working on projects that we enjoy, for great clients that we consider friends. It’s also nice when other people notice what we are doing. That’s why we were surprised to wake up Thanksgiving day and see our work featured on The Dieline. Their blog has become the industry showcase for packaging design and we are pleased to be profiled. Hops & Grain Website goes live

After long last, a really long last, our website for Hops & Grain has launched. It was a labor of love as we poured our sweat into every detail and then…waited…and waited. Apparently you can get brewing equipment, a space and develop a brand, but you can’t get city inspectors to hustle, even for beer. But that’s all over now and Josh is brewing, so we decided it was time to put a face on the brand and the reaction has been great. Take a look for yourself and tell us what you think. Thanks also to Iain Gray at igray for bringing the design to life.

Our new friends at Shady Grove

Today we met with the wonderful people at Shady Grove to talk about concepts for an all new menu design. The restaurant has been serving up great food and entertainment for 25 years in their cozy an relaxed setting…they are easily a top Austin favorite…an institution. After years of being great fans of the Grove ourselves I’d have to say we’re more than a little excited about working with them. Our goal is to develop a menu that perfectly reflects their 40′s state park style of architecture and old Austin lifestyle.

We recently visited Jacksonville, Florida to meet Ben and Cari, the great folks at Intuition Ale Works. Ben, ever the perfectionist, has worked tirelessly to mold craft beer to his exacting standards. The result: they have been a hit in their first year, offering an incredibly consistent and tasty range of beers in their lively taproom. We will be developing can designs as they make the progression from tap to retail with some of their signature styles.

Print Magazine Honors Heretic

We are excited to announce that the Christian Heretic book, our collaborative project with the MADHouse, has been featured in Print magazine’s 2010 Regional Design Annual. The annual is the most comprehensive survey of graphic design in the United States and we were happy to be included. Derrit was also asked to comment on the state of the design industry in the Southwest region. If you missed it on the newsstand you can order or download a copy at Print.

Poster Showcase on FPO Blog
